preview of some brand new funk

from the new minicomic I'm working on this week. less of a narrative and more of a sketchbook, I think you'll enjoy it all the same. more on that to come.

"Whole Day Off" now available in Etsy shop

Certified psychic Dahlia DeMatic can barely drag herself through her part-time shift at the call center. How will she cope with a night trapped inside a crazy mixed-up dream dimension ruled by ghosts and spiders and junk? It's anybody's guess but YOU DON'T HAVE TO GUESS IF YOU BUY THIS COMIC!

5.5"x8.5", 24pp., classic '50s style black and white.

Threat N Ink #3

A few of my comic strips ("Turtle Power," "BRAAAP!" and "More Fun for the People") and one of Joe Annabi's ("Choke") are appearing in the new issue #3 of Jethro Wall's handmade comics anthology Threat N Ink, along with some weird and funny selections from a bunch of other talented folks. Thirty-eight pages of mindbending black-and-white entertainment. The cover price is $3, the cost of not even enough gasoline to get you drunk. If you'd like to snag a copy you can contact Jethro via his MySpace page. If you are not on MySpace (the hell? you got a problem with being told "have a nice weekend" in sparkly text?) you can also e-mail him at threatnink(AT)gmail(DOT)com.

That Time I Ate the Special Pasta

That's it for the art in this month's exhibit at Winning Coffee Co. Like I said before, sometime after the first of April I'll be putting all these up for sale in my Etsy shop, so look out for that.

I'm working on some new comics for the sadly neglected Swizzlestuck comics page and for an upcoming print anthology from 7000 BC....in the meantime, why don't you take this quiz which I'm sure you will find enriching. Please let me know what results you get. I got Trespass.

Oh, I should also mention that I took some pictures of my roommate earlier this month. Early reviews are starting to come in and so far the verdict is ~S-E-X-Y~.

All Albuquerqueans are cordially invited to a rock occasion that will happen at Winning a couple of weeks from now. Yoda's House will welcome Philly's Aunt Dracula, their spectacular gimmick friend Waffle Wolf, and local up-and-comers Olvidese for an evening of deep thoughts and hott musics.

10Eastern

The other day I got an invitation from MySpace friend Devils Tower to join the art site 10Eastern.com, which lets people share and collaborate on drawings they make with a web-based MS Paint-style program. I just got started this afternoon, but you can see the first couple of drawings I did in my gallery. Stunning. I've also made a folder of some of my favorite drawings from other artists that I've found so far.

if I had the money I'd hire Molly Ringwald to be in more movies

For the first time ever my comics are easy and even a little enjoyable to navigate through. I've built a subsection of SWiZZLESTUCK just for the comics, with the simple back/forward style layout that every modern webcomic has. There's even a "random" button powered by the webcomics search engine ohnorobot.com, which hopefully won't go offline next month so that I have to redo everything. Knock on wood. Anyway, the SWiZZLESTUCK comics database is still under construction with only the comics through 2003 2004 2005 half of 2007 uploaded, which I know makes me an asshole, but it's 2AM and I'm tired, and anyway I think I'll have the rest of them done tomorrow. So there. If anyone has feedback on the new layout, let me know.

UPDATE: All of the comics are now navigable, so check it out and please let me know if you think it's kawaii or not kawaii.

ORIGINAL ART FOR SALE!!!111ONEONETWO

So I've decided to start clearing out some of the old comics and drawings I've had sitting in my archives. There is now a Flickr set for all the art I'm trying to unload, which you are welcome to browse at your leisure. I will continue to update Flickr as I find more stuff to sell and as I make brand new pieces, and I'll continue to post new stuff in this space as well. Right now everything is priced to MOVE like murder evidence that is also on fire. Who can say how long these LOW LOW PRICES will last? So anyway, please check it out and drop me a line if there's anything at all you're interested in purchasing. Thanks.

Waiting for the Big One

Been housesitting for my mom until she returns from Japan tomorrow night. Also my home PC is having drama, so there probably won't be much from me for the next couple weeks. So here's some links:

Jason Scott's TextFiles.com is a neat web-museum compiling relics from the pre-Internet BBS era, with collections of old .txt files (including ASCII art), vintage computer graphics and chiptune music, and old shareware CD-ROMs.

At last, there's finally a website dedicated to the imminent revival of Euro bubblegum dance pop, the genre that gave us Aqua and Toy-Box and all those virtually indistinguishable bands that look like assholes from the cover of Jock Jams until they start singing awesome songs about mermaids and Barbie dolls and cowboys and shit. With an index of music videos on YouTube. Ah, the Millennium. For those too young or drug-addled to remember, the turn of the century was a time of innocence, of Windows Me, Sega Dreamcast and irrepressibly positive fly-by-night pop stars with Kool Aid hair and well-toned abs. Before the dark times. Before the Empire. We can only hope that 2008 brings back some of this lost magic. Aqua is getting back together, so that's a start. Yes, I have what Bill Cosby called "the brain damage."

"The Story of SREBRENICA" is a mind-altering computer animated fable (split into three parts for YouTube) by someone named Nanny Lynn. It's sort of like an episode of Dora the Explorer written by Henry Darger. It's part of this DVD, which will probably be the first of many I'll buy from 5MTL.com.

I heart pixel art.

Happy Goddamn New Year from me, ABBA, Peter Gabriel and the year 1993.

Happy December

  • 2005's free MP3 album Auld Lang Syne (which I totally did art for) is still totally available for download from the no-longer-updated Comfort Stand Recordings website. Totally.
  • Rock-and-rolling group Yoda's House are going to "do" Albuquerque's Launchpad on 12/26. See flyer at right. Genitals will be melted. Beer glasses will be thrown.
  • Bunch of stuff added to Flickr, mostly old stuff but perhaps new to you.

my camera is infested with GHOSTS

So just in time for me to go on a week-long trip to Los Angeles, I discover that my 4-year-old digital camera is going senile. But I got some pretty pictures of Lead Ave. with it anyway, which you can see on my Flickr page.

Art in the Yard

Something from '06...Art Ant stands in front of his house brandishing his magic pencil. (heh heh) Get your mind out of the gutter. Click to enlarge. (heh heh)

Recently added a button (to your right) that will take you directly to all of this year's comic strip posts. Also added a couple new background images. #17 is a modified version of the upholstery pattern from a London bus, which I stole from this awesome Flickr set. Also, thanks to Melissa for letting me use her fab lobster pattern for background #18.

housecleaning

Did some reorganizing. There are now some handy category buttons in the right column to give easy access to archived posts for different kinds of stuff (Dreams, Art, etc.). There will be more buttons added as more material gets posted. I've also refiled the Dream posts under the dates when the dreams originally happened. This will help as I start to add a bunch of older dreams to the the site that have been missing since I switched to the Blogger format. I just added all of the dreams from October 2005. A lot of them are really stupid. Enjoy!

Skriblmenn in THREAT N INK #2

Cartoonist and zine impresario Jethro Wall was kind enough to include a couple of my The Skriblmenn comic strips in the second issue of his homemade anthology Threat N Ink. It's pretty neat. Check out Jethro's website here. He will totally accept money and send you comics if you ask.

blog feed shenanigans

If anyone out there is subscribed to the blog feed you may have noticed that it's not working so great. I've been reorganizing and moving stuff around (hope you like the new backgrounds), and the feed is now located at http://www.swizzlestuck.com/atom.xml. Of course, if you're subscribed to the old blog feed you may just think I've stopped updating and will probably never read this. And the rest of you are just confused. So never mind.

Oh, also I should say that the recent posts in the feed are temporarily messed up because I'm going back and tagging all my posts with categories, so if you see some old posts coming back up, that's why. Soon everybody will be able to just click a category and see all the dream posts at once, etc. IT'S LIKE LIVING IN THE FUTURE MAN. Like 2003.

Tuesday morning in the Bunker

Just finished drawing an 8-page story in one night. Pretty rockin'. I feel like David Cross in that one Mr. Show skit where he wins a bet by eating broken glass. WOOOOOO!!!
Next: getting through my shift at the call center on two hours of sleep. Oh, but first maybe I'll play some Nintendo.

What the Left Hand Is Doing

Hey. It's probably going to be a couple weeks until I'm back to posting regularly 'cause Joe and I are working on our miniature printed debut, Less Fun Comics #1, which we'll be taking to Stumptown Comics Fest at the end of the month. I suspect we'll have some kind of e-commerce thing set up in November for anyone who'd like to buy a copy once it's ready. In the meantime, go check out the new TMBG Podcast and eat candy & stuff. Happy Halloween!
