jack-o'-lantern concepts

Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy a moldy leftover from last month's major holiday. The design on the top left is the one I ended up carving. You can see the result here.

Krista L.L. Muir @ Winning 2007.12.04

In three weeks Yoda's House (an up-and-coming-at-ya-face post-rock band masterminded by my roommate) will be playing a set at Winning Coffee Co. preceded by the supremely talented singer/songwriter Krista L.L. Muir. She's totally great, like few people really are. If you live in Albuquerque and are in possession of $5, try to hang on to that $5 until Dec. 04 by resisting the urge to take advantage of our town's economy-priced prostitutes, and come welcome our new Québécois overlords.

?

I just learned that today is They Day, when They Might Be Giants fans customarily write "THEY" on their foreheads in black marker. I would totally be doing it, but I'm about to get on a train and I'm afraid of being put on some kind of terrorist watch list.

In other news: tomorrow night (God willing) I will see Genesis at the Hollywood Bowl. Banks! Collins! Rutherford! EEEE!

And just like that, I have alienated all of you.

Golden Age Zip-O

Zipfield Octavius Matic, obscure cousin of Dahlia DeMatic, as seen here in his Earth-Two incarnation, before Dahlia existed and his name was Zippo and he was a blatant but unconscious ripoff of Matt Groening's Akbar/Jeff. Drawn sometime in the early 1990s. Looks like I was trying to make a coaster or a pog or something. He is standing in front of a gadget store.

Art in the Yard

Something from '06...Art Ant stands in front of his house brandishing his magic pencil. (heh heh) Get your mind out of the gutter. Click to enlarge. (heh heh)

Recently added a button (to your right) that will take you directly to all of this year's comic strip posts. Also added a couple new background images. #17 is a modified version of the upholstery pattern from a London bus, which I stole from this awesome Flickr set. Also, thanks to Melissa for letting me use her fab lobster pattern for background #18.

cartoon classiks

I don't think I've posted this one before. Art Ant and Doggie are two of the very first characters I ever invented. Art (who I've redesigned a bit here from his original stick-figure incarnation) has a magic pencil that can draw real, tangible objects in thin air...I think I stole that from "Harold and His Purple Crayon"...who kind of stole it from Felix the Cat cartoons, so who cares. Doggie was my attempt at doing a Garfield-style "sassy housepet" character. He has a friendly nemesis named Catt not pictured here. I Hate You was the generic title of a series of comics I tried to do around the same time, about people getting served with slams and put-downs and whatnot. Someone, I think my Mom, said it wasn't a nice title, so I changed it to Heartburn. Sometime I think I'd like to resurrect all these ideas, I guess because I've got a thing for old, bad ideas.
