T-9's Liquid Diner #001: Monkey Show

It's podcasting, bitch! For our first episode, we have twelve monkey/ape-themed songs. 99% recycled content, but I hope you enjoy it all the same. Yes, I know monkeys and apes are two different things. "Primate Show" didn't seem right because I didn't have any songs about lemurs.

[download me]

01. Robin & Crystal Bernard - "The Monkey Song"
02. Elvis Costello & the Imposters - "Monkey to Man"
03. They Might Be Giants - "Beneath the Planet of the Apes"
04. Nirvana - "Very Ape"
05. The Jeff Wayne Space Shuttle - "Apes' Shuffle"
06. The Simpsons - "A Fish Called Selma (Medley)" [part one]
07. Songs to Wear Pants To - "Monkey Feet"
08. minusbaby - "Orangutangaroo"
09. The Beatles - "Too Much Monkey Business"/"Have a Banana!"
10. The Simpsons - "A Fish Called Selma (Medley)" [part two]
11. Peter Gabriel - "Shock the Monkey" [Plays Live version]
12. They Might Be Giants - "This Ape's for You"

WHAT ARE YOUR CRIMES???

Watch a creepy video of a smartass cameraperson (I think it's Tom Servo, but that's just a guess) being harassed by a cop, a security guy and a trio of crazy-eyed Scientologists at some sort of Scientology event in L.A. Seriously. You'd think an evil international world domination cult would be a little more suave, like Michael York in The Omega Code, and less like a bunch of sexually confused middle school bullies.

Venue Songs is of vital importance

I'm telling someone about the different versions of the They Might Be Giants album Venue Songs that exist. There's a double album (the original version-- I think this is the one with sunflowers all over the cover), the live version that was distributed on their website, and the new version that just came out last month, including all of the live tracks plus a large selection of previously unreleased bonus tracks.
For some reason it is very important that I convey this information. I look around for a pen and a sheet of paper to write it down on, but all they have is a coloring book and a fat sharpie. I scratch my explanation down in huge block letters that bleed through a dozen coloring book pages.

Elvis, Popeye...Damn

Damn Interesting is a website Aaron Nelson turned me on to the other day, with semi-daily short articles about historical oddities, weird science, etc. I spend about half my time on the InterWeb looking for this kind of stuff, so this site will go a long way in helping me to waste my time more efficiently.

The ridiculously prolific Elvis Costello has a new album out, this time a lyrical/musical/literal trip to New Orleans with veteran songwriter Allen Toussaint. I just got my copy and it's pretty neat. "Here comes the flood if you catch my drift."

I'm a big nerd and I love the 1930s Fleischer Popeye cartoons, so this news got me excited. Now how about a complete reprinting of Elzie Segar's Thimble Theater (the fantastic comic strip Popeye came from)? Eh?

when badgers attack

I'm on a narrow concrete path somewhere in Corrales, with a cottonwood-lined embankment on my right and a chain-link fence on my left. I am sitting down, riding on a flat wooden plank mounted atop a small set of wheels. I am using my hands to propel myself, perhaps because my legs don't work. I am trying to escape from a group of mangy, angry badgers that are chasing me. At least, I assume they're badgers. They actually look more like skunks, except they're entirely black and they don't have faces. I'm not going very fast because I have to keep turning around to beat back the badgers as they try to jump on top of the plank and bite and scratch me.

After I woke up I decided that I should have done what Captain America would do: roll off the plank and use it as a shield to defend myself against the badgers, then turn it into a weapon to beat them to death with.

Horned Fellow at Great Wall

Welcome to the new blog. I know it's not as fancy as the Swizzlestuck main page (not yet anyway), but it's a lot easier to edit, so that means I'll have more time to actually draw things. Also, you'll now be able to search posts and leave comments much more easily. Hint hint.
